Frequently asked questions about tanning.
How long should my first tanning session be?
Your first tanning session is determined by your skin type by our specially trained staff. We will assess what type of equipment might be the best option for you, and we will offer consultation. We do not recommend ever tanning the maximum exposure time for your first tanning session. We believe slow and gradual is the most effective and responsible tanning practice. Lotions will help increase and accelerate your tan by 60% percent.
Do indoor tanning lotions REALLY work?
Yes A quality lotion will increase your tan up to 60%. A quality indoor tanning lotion promotes the retention of moisture, thereby keeping your skin smooth and supple while minimizing flaking. The newest indoor tanning lotions offer paraben free products, amazing anti-aging skincare properties, and so much more. Concerned because you suffer from skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis? Don't worry! We have something for everyone to achieve the best results.
Does all tanning equipment tan the same?
Absolutely not. We pride ourselves on performing routine maintenance on all our equipment so you always have the best tanning experience. There are different types of equipment, so be sure to check with your sales associate who can advise you on the different levels of UVA and UVB.
What do I wear when I tan?
We give you the utmost privacy in your tanning. You may tan with a bathing suit if you prefer. All you need is protective eye wear.
What can I use to protect my hair, acrylic nails, tattoos?
Colored hair benefits from a solar cap, this will protect your hair's vibrant color from the UV Exposure. For acrylic nails we suggest "nail savers" so your acrylics remain intact, and do not turn yellow. Tattoos can also fade with sun exposure. We suggest a tattoo fade-resistant stick.
Can I use outdoor oils and lotions in the tanning bed?
NO, outdoor products should ONLY be used outdoors, as they can cause a film on the acrylic, which actually inhibits your tan. Ask us for recommendations.
How do I keep my tan?
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! It is the most effective way to keep your skin supple. We highly suggest our HEMP moisturizer, chock full of beneficial antioxidants.
Is it okay to shower right away after tanning?
Absolutely! A tan can take up to 24 hours to develop. You can not "wash" away your tan. Try to steer clear of sunless tanning products, shaving, and exfoliating. Many of our products that have bronzing agents in them are best to be applied and then wait 3 hours to shower.
Can I tan if I'm pregnant?
Please consult your physician. Although we know that there is no danger from UV rays since they cannot penetrate deeper than the dermis (skin layer). Pregnant women are advised to be cautious with saunas, hot tubs and other things that can cause excessive heat to build up in the uterus.
When shouldn't I tan?
When you are taking photosensitizing medication it is not recommended to tan outdoors or indoors. If you aren't sure, ask your doctor, or ask our tanning consultant to see a list of medications, which can greatly increase the risk of overexposure.
Can indoor tanning cure acne?
Phototherapy (use of UV light) has been used in treating the skin problems of this condition. Tanning acts as a drying agent and help keep outbreaks to a minimum. If you are medicated on Retin-A or tetracycline, please take extreme care with UV exposure.
Does tanning help treat depression or Seasonal Affective Disorder?
Many health advocates and physicians believe light therapy is an effective treatment for depression and Seasonal Affect Disorder.
"Because increased sunlight improves symptoms, light therapy is often a main treatment for many people with seasonal affective disorder," Mullenix wrote in the story. "Light therapy mimics outdoor light and causes a biochemical change in your brain that lifts your mood, relieving symptoms of seasonal affective disorder?" (source)
Do I need an appointment?
No we take no appointments for your easiest convenience.
Why is there a tan tax? What is the purpose?
There's a new 10% federal tax on UV indoor tanning.
The indoor tanning excise tax (10%) was imposed by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka, Healthcare Reform or "ObamaCare"). The law states that all providers of UV indoor tanning services must charge their customers an additional 10% excise tax for those services starting on July 1, 2010. This tax is imposed all over the United States, at every tanning salon. This does not apply for

Frequently asked questions about Mystic SPRAY tanning.
What is a Mystic Tan?
It is a special sunless booth that utilizes patented spray technology which sweeps side to side in an airbrush motion. The Mystic Tan system allows you to choose from several color cartridges and additives so that you can create the perfect tan, and achieve the desired results.
What should I wear during a Mystic Tan?
It is best to wear nothing. However, if you do choose to wear a bathing suit or underwear, please note that it may become stained. The bronzer additive products are water-soluble and should wash out, but the DHA may permanently stain your undergarments.
Do I need anything for my Mystic Tan session?
We will provide you with a disposable shower cap for your hair. Please make sure the cap does not slip below your hair line or it will leave a line. You may opt to buy adhesive footies to protect the soles of your feet from the DHA.
How do I prep my skin before and after the Mystic Tan?
For the best results, our professional staff will instruct you on the benefits of a barrier cream to protect your easily stained body areas (eg elbows, knees, heels, wrists). Baby wipes or wash cloths are provided to remove barrier cream. You may towel off like a shower. You will not streak.
How long do I wait before I shower?
Mystic Tan suggests a minimum of 4 hours for the best results. DHA needs time to react with your skin. If you showered before 4 hours, you may diminish the intensity of your tan. The insta-color bronzer you may have added into your session is a cosmetic bronzer. It will wash off after your first shower, but will still reveal the long lasting, DHA-based Tan.
Will swimming in pools or the ocean affect my tan?
Yes. Chlorinated pool water and salt water may cause streaking and may diminish the quality and duration of your Mystic Tan.
Will I become orange?
No. Unlike creams and lotions your purchase at your local drug store, etc- Mystic Tan is an evenly- controlled system.
Does Mystic smell? Some individuals do experience a slight smell from the product. They are special aromas you may infuse such a desert bloom, coconut line, etc to offset any scent.
How long will my Mystic Tan last?
How can I make it last even longer?A Mystic Tan will last 5-7 days. To make your tan last, we have several prolong products, ph balanced body washes, exfoliates, and moisturizers to maintain the integrity of your tan.
